Criteria for Nomination and Selection
Industry Categories
Award(s) may be granted each year in each of the following categories, which includes individuals or organizations. Note: Selection committee reserves the right to redirect industry category.

Agriculture
…involved in the Science, Art, and Practice of cultivating the soil, producing crops, and raising livestock and in varying degrees the preparation and marketing of the resulting products.

Building/Construction
…involved in increasing the efficiency of resource uses such as energy, water, and materials while also reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building’s life cycle. This includes both residential and commercial construction. -
Chemical
…involved in the production or research of chemicals.

Consumer Products
…Producers of merchandise or other item of common or daily use, ordinarily bought by individuals or households for private consumption.

Education
…dedicated to education at any level, public or private.

Energy
…dedicated to conserving energy, finding more resourceful ways to be energy efficient, energy efficient buildings, industrial processes and transportation and helping control global emissions of greenhouse gases. Industries include: solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and hydro-electric. -
Entertainment
…Television, Radio, Film, Sport, Music, or any other media classified as entertainment.

Finance
…involved in the circulation of money, the granting of credit, the making of investments, and the provision of banking facilities i.e. Credit Unions

Food Service
…practice or business of making, transporting, serving, and dispensing prepared foods.

Government Entities / Municipalities
…Administrative units of government. City, town, or other district possessing corporate existence and usually its own local government (City, State, County, or Town)

Health Care / Pharmaceutical
…Hospitals, Laboratories, Pharmaceuticals, Medical, Doctors

Individual Contributions
…an individual that has given (money, time, knowledge, assistance, etc.) to the advancement of sustainability, Green or eco-science.

Industrial Goods
…Machinery, goods or component parts produced for industry, which include processed or raw materials, and goods used to produce other goods, machinery, components, and equipment

Manufacturing
…involved in the making of goods by manual labor and machinery.

Media, Travel, Leisure
…A means of public communication reaching a large audience such as television, radio, and all forms of social media.

Natural Resources
…dealing with the use of any industrial materials and capacities (mineral deposits and waterpower) supplied by nature.

Retail
…sellers of goods and products directly to the end consumer.

Service
…the occupations or functions of serving others.

Technology
…the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science

Transportation, Aerospace
…transporting, especially a vehicle: as a bus, cargo liners (ship), airplane, truck, or automobile. Including industry concerned with the use of vehicles for both the earth’s atmosphere and space.

Waste and Recycling
…treating or process’s (used or waste materials) so as to make suitable for reuse.

Other
…any individual or industry that is different in nature or kind from the above.
Award Categories

Environmental Management
- Environmental management systems, sustainability programs, conversion to low emission vehicles, green building, solar, wind, renewable energy, etc.

Mitigation
- Wetlands restoration, stream mitigation/restoration, pollution remediation, ocean, seas, and lake preservation etc.

Outreach and Education
- Environmental awareness campaigns, land preservation, authoring books, lecturing, convention and conferences etc.

Community Involvement
- Training programs, activism, governance, economic development etc.
Selection Criteria
Entries for each award category will be measured against the following criteria by a panel of three to five independent judges:

Environmental Benefit
- Project, initiative or program should achieve overall environmental benefits. Benefits should be demonstrated through a comparison of the condition before implementation of the project, initiative or program to the condition after implementation using life-cycle analysis, risk analysis or other performance measures determined useful by the applicant.

Innovation
- Project, initiative or program should exhibit innovation in working toward an environmental improvement or solution at a specific location or surrounding community. Examples of innovation include new technologies, methods or information, or innovative methods of implementing or utilizing existing technologies, methods or information.

Effective Implementation
- Project, initiative or program should be effectively implemented in a manner that achieves maximum environmental benefit while cooperating with necessary stakeholders and partners and minimizing time, effort and cost.

Widespread Applicability
- Project, initiative or program should contribute information, technology or techniques that provide an environmental benefit while demonstrating the potential for applicability for others.

Cost Effectiveness
- Project, initiative or program should be cost effective as demonstrated, for example, through cost-benefit analysis, life-cycle costs or other cost comparison technique.
Eligibility
The award applicant may be an individual, group of individuals, or combination thereof. Applicants who have previously submitted an entry(s), but who did not receive an award, may resubmit that same entry in succeeding years without prejudice. Sponsors or members who are nominated will be excluded in the selection process.
Application Requirements
Application: Award applications must be submitted electronically in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Applications must be double-spaced and may not exceed 10 pages including all text, graphics and photos. The entry form and letters of support do not count toward the 10 page limit. Entry form may be e-mailed or mailed to the address below, but must be received by the deadline.
Applications must include the following:
- Completed official International Green Industry Hall of Fame Environmental Achievement Award entry form;
- A one-page application summary, signed and dated by the lead applicant representative;
Supporting documentation: If deemed necessary, applicants can provide supporting documentation to demonstrate their case for induction. Supporting documentation may include: news media coverage, photos, CDs or DVDs (but all must be electronic form). If supporting documentation cannot be transmitted electronically, two physical copies should be submitted by mail before the deadline.
There is no entry fee, all nominations are FREE!
Submittal Requirements: Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted to the International Green Industry Hall of Fame by October 30, 2011 late applications or supporting documentation will not be considered.
Recipients: Will be notified by TBA with formal recognition at the IGIHOF Annual Recognition Dinner.
